About Our Church

First Church is a church family that LOVES JESUS!

We’re group of people who love and follow Jesus. Many of us came to know God through different experiences in our lives that helped us understand that God exists and God loves us. Those experiences moved us to accept the truth of God revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe that God shows everyone love in a variety of ways in our daily lives so that we can all come to love God in return.

While many of us have followed Jesus for a long time, we’re a church that welcomes people no matter where they are in their relationship with God. Some of us have been Christians for most of our lives, while others among us aren’t sure if they believe in God at all. First Church welcomes all people, regardless of age, race, cultural background, sexual orientation, economic status, church experience, physical ability, or any other aspect of their individual story. Our greatest hope as disciples of Jesus and our mission as His church is to help someone who doesn’t know God start a relationship with God by coming to know Jesus Christ.

First Church is a church family that is GROWING IN FAITH.

As a community of followers of Jesus we want to know and serve Him. Part of that means deepening our relationships with Jesus through praying, studying the Bible, worshipping regularly, serving others, and sharing our stories.

These are practical things that we can do by ourselves and with each other. The Bible teaches us that we should these things, and they are a critical part of our church heritage. Our experience is that the more we do them the better we know and love God. At First Church we are intentional about giving people chances to do these things and helping people learn how to do them better.

We all have doubts and struggles. Questions, doubts, fears, and frustrations are all part of a walk with Christ. We don’t pretend that we have it all together as people or as a church. We know that we don’t have all the answers, but we have come to trust and follow the One who does, Jesus.

First Church is a church family that is MAKING A DIFFERENCE.

We believe that followers of Christ must do things that share God’s love with others. Each of us is gifted and called by God to make a difference for people. These can be in large groups working together. For example, the United Methodist Church has raised more than 70 million dollars to fight Malaria in Africa. We can make a difference as individuals by helping a sick friend, offering  a sandwich to someone who is hungry, praying for someone who needs it, or speaking a word of encouragement to someone who is having a bad time.

We seek to be a blessing to all God’s children in whatever ways we can. Whether it’s our pantry, our open meals, belonging to the block club, giving neighborhood kids a place to play and learn, we make a difference.
